THE SITUATION
The facility was a 100,000 sq/f data center with raised floors, over 900 server racks, telecom patch/panels, top run cable trays and associated wiring, metal security cages, seismic bracings and air handlers. The requirement was to catalog all components in the rack, remove and shred all hard drives on-site, remove all tech components from the building and then coordinate the recycling of equipment. The data center was to be left broom clean and free of all cables above the floor so the client could commence with the removal of the raised floors. The time frame allowed for this project was 22 days, meeting construction contractor’s time line.
THE RESPONSE
After coordination with the client on the time line and scope of work, Guardian performed site evaluation to assess physical inventory, building configuration, and shipping and storage resources. Next, Guardian worked in tandem with client to plan, manage and execute the extraction of material and components from the building. All secured material, assets and their components were safely recorded to match a master inventory list. Extraction and removal started with the physical disconnect of all wiring, manual unbolting of all the floor braces and bolts to cabinets, posts and bracings from the raised floor and from the drop down ceiling components (fiber trays and cable runners). The transportation of all material was coordinated by Guardian to be transported to a pre-determined recycler.
Guardian provided, in advance, all security and identification required of all on site personnel and met with the facility manager to be briefed on the client’s safety and security protocols.
THE RESULT
While working very closely with both the reseller and client, Guardian Data Destruction delivered a single-source solution from cataloging to data destruction, and completed the decommissioning of the entire data center slightly ahead of schedule and in full compliance with the SoW.
