April 21, 2020 – Steve Rich and a group of associates announces that they will staff and donate supplies and funds to the “Tankque to the Unsung Heroes” event scheduled for Saturday, April 25th in the parking lot of the Park Ridge Pool on Colony Avenue. The community-supported event is a thank you for the health care workers, local police, fire, ambulance,  supermarket, first responders, trucking and delivery drivers who are working hard to keep Northern New Jersey safe, fed and supplied during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizer and local resident Steve Rich explains the giving project: “My company built a multi-purpose wood-fired and portable cooking machine from recycled oil tanks that is available to nonprofits at no charge (see www.tankque.com). Fired completely by wood, the Tankque includes a pizza oven, smoker, 3-pig rotisseries, a grill and two four-foot barbecues. Working with several other community businesses who are providing food and sponsorships, we’ve organized a drive-up BBQ event to thank our frontline heroes. We’re thrilled to partner with so many locals to give these individuals and their families a safe and delicious socially-distanced feast.”

As of press date, “Tankque to the Unsung Heroes” is planning to serve up to 400 pizzas, 400 lbs. of pulled pork sandwiches and 400 lbs. of grilled chicken. Frontline workers will be able to pull into the parking lot to pick up their food order safely.

Local businesses who have already committed donations to support the “The Unsung Heroes” BBQ include B&M Meat Market, Marc’s Deli and Pizza, Downes Tree service, Davey’s Locker, Taylor Rental, Let’s Meat Steakhouse, Crecco’s Café, Wegman’s. Community groups are contributing homemade baked goods. The organizers extend their special thanks to Park Ridge Mayor Keith Misciagna and the Council for their rapid and extraordinary efforts to put this event together.

Glenn Laga, long time Park Ridge resident and President of Guardian Data Destruction, will be coordinating the logistics of the donation and GDD staff will be volunteering to work the event.  All   volunteer and staffing will follow COVID-19 hygiene guidelines with disinfection and wearing masks and gloves. “As a long-time Park Ridge resident, I am thrilled to be a part of this thank you to our local heroes and supporters.  We’re absolutely looking for additional volunteers and suppliers to help make this event a community success and fill the bellies of those we depend on. I’d love to see this BBQ provide not just delicious food but a sense of appreciation and thankfulness that we all have for our frontline neighbors and friends.”

The event rain date is Sunday, April 26th. Additional sponsors, donors and volunteers needed and welcomed. Volunteers will be asked to monitor smokers, setup, food prep, cook, serve, clean up or grill. Anyone interested in volunteering, sponsoring or donating goods and services should contact Steve Rich by 201-321-1138 (mobile) or email at sr@steverichgroup.com.
